HEARTBREAKERS (R)

Reviewed April 14, 2001 - Check out the Heartbreakers Website.

Studio Synopsis: Heartbreakers follows Max (Sigourney Weaver) and Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a mother and daughter who are expert grifters, through one after another of their perfectly executed scams. Max gets wealthy men to fall in love with her and marry her, then Page seduces them, setting up grounds for Max to divorce them and cash out. Heartbreakers is a fun, fast-moving comedy directed by David Mirkin.

Fuzzydog Review: Way too long and badly paced throughout, Heartbreakers is a film that's home video material at best, and "avoid completely" material at worst.  Despite good individual performances by Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta, this is a film that never really comes together, and one that makes you long to see the infinitely superior grifter comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (with Michael Caine and Steve Martin).  Couldn't they have edited at least a half an hour off of this 2 hour-long saga?  It would have helped.  As it is, Heartbreakers genuinely funny parts get drowned away by too many of its slow, meandering parts.  Definitely not worth your $9 admission ticket...
