THE ROCK (R) 
Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris, and lots of action set in San Francisco equals one entertaining movie! Even with the implausibility of the storyline (couldn't they have thought up a better reason to hold Alcatraz hostage?), the action and the actors hold this film together and make it fly. Connery and Cage are excellent as usual, and the city (San Francisco, that is) looks great! The Bruckheimer and Simpson production team--responsible for Top Gun, Days of Thunder, and Crimson Tide--just keeps churning 'em out...
Oh, what's the movie about? Well, a bunch of angry military types decide to take Alcatraz hostage and threaten to nerve gas the city of San Francisco if the Federal government doesn't pay war reparations to the families of soldiers killed in battle. Cage and Connery come to the rescue...got it?
Many people are comparing this movie to Die Hard, and I have to consider that a fair comparison. I liked Die Hard (a lot), and I like The Rock (a lot). Go see it!
IMPRESSIONS
Favorite scene: car chase ending with a Cable Car blowing up and obliterating a Ferrari. Pointless as far as the plotline goes, but fun!
Most distressing scene: Goodspeed (Cage) stabbing himself in the heart. Gave me flashbacks of Pulp Fiction...
Did they really have to: show that guy's face bubbling away like that?
Question left unanswered: who really shot JFK?

concerned (including the often overlooked Michael Biehn), a great script
and reasoning that strengthens the plot, great cinematoghraphy with the
usual Jerry sky, brilliant pulsating syntho tunes for the action sequences
(Car Chase and The Tunnels), haunting music for the main theme, and a brilliantly
scored climax that is my personal favourite film moment for the conclusion
to a film. All this being said and done, hands together for Michael Bays'
relentless direction, composition of great shots, rapid-fire editing, and
just fucking great sequences that have yet to be matched by Cameron, Spielberg,
and Woo. Buy the film(Widescreen only; Don't listen to the super 35 arguments).

times. I can speak along with the movie and often quote it in real life.
If you have not seen this movie WATCH IT!!! For mothers who walk in at
the sex scene just to tell you that is about 30 seconds long and the only
part in the whole movie. My poor friend had to turn the movie off because
