THE WHOLE NINE YARDS (R)

Reviewed February 26, 2000 - Check out The Whole Nine Yards Website.

Studio Synopsis: Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky (Matthew Perry) is a nice dentist living in suburban Montreal. His new next door neighbor, Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis), is a hit man hiding out from a dangerous Chicago crime family. Despite their differences, Oz and Jimmy have one thing in common: someone's trying to kill them both. For Jimmy, avoiding a couple of hired killers is child's play. But for Oz, it's a whole new ball game. To stay alive, they're going to have to stick together - Jimmy with his cunning and cold-blooded accuracy and Oz with his dental tools.

Fuzzydog Review: Let's get the important stuff out of the way first...The Whole Nine Yards is, if nothing else, very funny.  Blessed with a wonderfully likeable performance by Matthew Perry, and sprinkled with fine supporting stints by the likes of Michael Clarke Duncan and Kevin Pollack, this off-the-wall, highly improbable story does manage to click.  Often slapsticky but nicely imbued with great comedic timing, this mobster/hitman comedy by director Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny, Nuns on the Run) will keep you guessing about who's on who's side, and how both "Oz" and Tudeski might get themselves out of their predicaments.  Trying to stay alive while mobsters are after you isn't a funny thing (or so I imagine), but in The Whole Nine Yards, there's really quite a bit to laugh about.  This is 100 minutes of pure mobster silliness, and despite its disappointingly convoluted yet weak ending, there's much to like about this film.  Check it out if you're in the mood for a few good chuckles...

David Rogers gives this movie  stars: "This is a very funny movie and it was even suspensful at times! Sure it was a little predictable, but who cares? I have to admit, Bruce Willis actually did a deacent acting job in this (belive it or not)!" (10/13/00)
